This song was made in 1940 for the film "João Ratão" (A portuguese film about a portuguese WW1 soldier) and became popular once again in the '60s when Fernando Farinha singed the song (I used Farinha's version btw). The song talks about the return of a portugese soldier to his home after he served in WW1, and this soldier talks about his life in the trenchs and it's hope of victory and returning to Portugal.
