This home movie presents a fascinating look at the 1932 Summer Olympics, held at the then-brand-new Los Angeles Coliseum. The film opens with a shot of a neon sign welcoming visitors to the games. At :21, City Hall is seen decorated for the event. At :40, Broadway is festooned with flags and banners. The United Artists movie theater, which still exists today, is visible on the left hand side. At :55 the Olympic Village is shown. This was located in Baldwin Hills at the end of West Vernon Place and west of Crenshaw Boulevard, and consisted of 550 portable houses designed and built by H.O. Davis. The USA accommodations are shown at 1:53. At 2:00, the telegraph office is visible. At 2:21, the Republic of China delegation residences are shown. At 2:40 athletes greet one another at the village. The inside of a cottage is shown at 3:28. Each room housed two athletes, with two beds, two chairs, a dresser, and a lavatory bowl. At 3:40 an athlete wearing a Chinese uniform shakes hands outside the bungalow, and then does a warm-up. This is almost certainly the sprinter Liu Changchun, who was the only athlete to compete for the Republic of China. He competed in the 100 m and 200 m sprints, and also bore the flag of the ROC. The other persons shown probably include his coach Carl F. Song, Dr. G. L. Chee, and possibly Wm. Z. L. Sung who served as Chef de Mission for the Chinese. At 4:54, a member of the Italian team poses. At 4:57 an Indian, police motorcycle is inspected.

At 5:11 the Los Angeles Coliseum is shown and crowds of people arrive for track and field events on August 7, 1932. At 5:43 high jumping. At 7:30, relay race. At 7:53 the scoreboard on the Coliseum's towering archway is updated to show race results for the 4x100 women's relay race. At 8:16 a distance race begins, followed by shots of other racing events including the men's 4x100 relay. At 9:08 the flag is raised to honor America's team for coming in first place in that event. The winning athletes were Ed Ablowich, Bill Carr,
Ivan Fuqua and Karl Warner.

At 10:20, lacrosse is played on the grass. At 10:48 the Los Angeles Swimming Stadium adjacent to the Coliseum is shown. At 10:55 the Olympic flag with its intersecting rings is shown. At 11:00 and following, divers perform magnificent stunts from the high board. At 13:00 swimming events. At 16:00, men's water polo. At 16:07, Duke Kahanamoku is seen at the pool. At the time he was serving as an alternate for the U.S. water polo team.

Starting at 16:25, the Long Beach Marine Stadium is seen, home to various rowing events. The site is now registered as California Historical Landmark #1014. A vast oil field and storage tanks are visible behind the parking lots. At 17:00, crew races are seen.

At 21:00, equestrian events are shown back at the Olympic Stadium including dressage and jumping contests. At 27:40 the facade of the stadium is seen once again, with the Japanese flag now flying, probably in honor of Takeichi Nishi who won the individual jumping competition. At 28:11 the USA flag is hoisted, probably in honor of the USA which won gold in the team event.

At 28:34 the closing ceremonies are seen in the Coliseum, with the Olympic flag lowered and the Olympic flame extinguished.

The 1932 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the X Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event that was held from July 30 to August 14, 1932, in Los Angeles, California, United States. The Games were held during the worldwide Great Depression and some nations were unable to pay for the trip to Los Angeles; 37 nations competed compared to 46 in the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. Even U.S. President Herbert Hoover did not attend the Games. The organizing committee did not report the financial details of the Games, although contemporary newspapers claimed that the Games had made a profit of US$1,000,000.
