Let’s talk about mulch! Most people think it’s just to make the landscaping look pretty and it is great for that but that is not the real purpose of mulch. The reason we use mulch is to help retain moisture for the plants/trees and to help fight weeds. A heavy layer of mulch is going to help suppress the weeds and anyone in Florida knows that is a major problem all year! We seriously have weeds popping up in the concrete because things germinate anywhere here in Florida! My recommendation to battle weeds is too heavy mulch. For the weeds you do see in the garden, I would use a three-part solution of Epson salt, dish soap, vinegar. The vinegar is 95% of the solution you’re just throwing in a tiny bit of the other stuff.
In this video, I just finished planting to banana trees together and I added a thick layer of mulch around the base. I decided to throw in a couple turmeric around the base as I had them laying around! Typical for a plant addict! We surround ourselves with seeds, plants, soil, worms, and who knows what else to feed this passion.
Go plant some FOOD!!
