Today’s journey begins near the iconic Chicham Bridge, one of the highest suspension bridges in Asia, as I finally say goodbye to this breathtaking place and continue my extreme winter drive through the heart of Spiti Valley.
Just when I was about to leave, a dog suddenly came onto the road, and I had to stop the Thar for safety. Moments later, multiple expedition vehicles arrived from the opposite side, and it reminded me how important it is to follow mountain road rules — especially in such dangerous winter conditions.
As I moved forward, the views turned absolutely unreal…
Snow-covered mountains everywhere, frozen landscapes, and black ice roads making every kilometer a real challenge. The snow was melting during the day, turning the route into muddy slush, with water splashing all over the trails.
Once again, I crossed the beautiful Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary, and the atmosphere felt straight out of a documentary. Passing through small villages like Key Monastery and Key Village, I captured the raw winter life of Spiti.
And then came the most unexpected moment…
Two Blue Sheep (Bharal) appeared right in front of my vehicle! At first, I thought they were ibex, but later realized how lucky I was to witness these rare wild animals so close. It felt like nature itself was giving me content on the road.
After reaching Kaza, I refueled my vehicle and explored the town’s winter vibes. I even witnessed local winter games and ice hockey, which was such a unique cultural experience in this remote Himalayan desert.
Later, I stopped at a cozy restaurant for some coffee and pasta before continuing the drive through broken roads, heavy mud, and extreme cold. On the way, I met several expedition travelers — many of them were my subscribers — and we shared some amazing moments together.
I also visited the famous Ice Cafe, which is slowly melting as temperatures change, but still holds its magical charm.
Finally, after a tough drive through snow and slush, I reached Tabo, where all three vehicles were parked for the night. With the temperature dropping to -23°C, even lighting the gas stove became a struggle.
Despite the freezing wind, I managed to heat water and cook simple rice for dinner. A female dog was resting near my car, so I shared food with her too — because in the mountains, kindness matters.
The day ended inside my vehicle with warm lights, editing my vlog, reflecting on this unforgettable winter journey, and realizing how deeply I’ve fallen in love with Spiti.
This is not just a road trip…
This is extreme winter survival, adventure, and a lifetime memory.
Stay tuned for the next episode of this incredible expedition!
