Tales of Phantasia #55 - Shadow in the Cave of Darkness & Shadow - No Commentary

Описание: The Cave of Darkness is southeast of Early. Inside, you can find more treasure and another optional summon. You could visit this place earlier, but without the Red Lantern, Blue Candle, and Green Torch from Aifread’s Treasure Hunt and the Dwarven Ruins, you cannot go very far. You also need the Amethyst Pact Ring from the Cave of the Spirits to form a pact with the spirit here.
When you enter, there is a sign with a cryptic message saying you need the three colored lamps. Continue to the right and follow the long path until you reach a door. Go through it to the next area.
This place is completely dark, so activate the lamps to see. Check the sign in the upper right for a clue that says “ruby light.” Turn off all lights except the Red Lantern, and the door will open. Go through and walk down the stairs to the next floor.
You will see two paths, left and right. Both lead to the same door, but each has different treasure. Take the left path to get a Tea Cup and the right path to get the Shamisen. After that, go through the door.
There is another sign that mentions “amethyst light.” Turn on the Red Lantern and the Blue Candle, since red and blue make purple. The door will open. Go through to another sign and door. This time it says “pearly light.” Turn on all three lamps to open it, then go down the stairs.
This room looks large because of the darkness and columns, but there is not much here. From the entrance, go up at the first chance, then left until you find a red chest with Quicksilver. Go down as far as possible, then left until the screen stops moving. You will see another red chest below with more Quicksilver. Go up until you see a path to the right. Go right to a red chest with an Earthenware Pot, then return left and continue upward to a door.
Nearby is a wandering ninja who sells Jiraiya, Suzu’s strongest skill, for 54,000 Gald. This skill starts slowly, but the flames can deal heavy damage. Go through the door to the next area.
This room has a door, two lamps, and a sign that says “Release fire at 4:48.” You must use the Sorcerer’s Ring while standing in a spot where your shadows from the two lamps look like a clock at 4:48. Move three steps to the right of the top lamp, then go down six squares. Use the ring and the door will open.
Go through and down the stairs. From the entrance, ignore the first left path and keep going up. Take the second left path and check above and below for two chests with more Quicksilver. Continue left to the next screen and open the blue chest to get the Emerald Pact Ring. This item reduces elemental damage for Klarth except light and is required for another optional summon later.
Go back right, then take either the upper or lower left path to the next screen. Follow the path until you reach a door and enter.
This room has a tricky puzzle. There are four switches in the corners, a circle in the center, four signs, and another door. Reading all the messages gives a clue. Think about the continent of Early. The Cave of Darkness is southeast of Early, which matches the southeast switch. Dhaos’s Castle is northwest of Early, so step on the northwest switch too. After activating both switches, stand on the circle in the middle for about 30 seconds. The door will open.
Inside, you meet the Spirit of Darkness, Shadow. After the conversation, Klarth forms a pact and gains the Shadow summon.
Now leave the Cave of Darkness, using the correct lamps to open the doors again.

Tales of Phantasia (テイルズ オブ ファンタジア) is a real-time action RPG developed by Wolf Team and published by Namco for the Super Famicom. It is the first game in the long-running Tales series originally released only in Japan in December 1995. For its time, it was a very advanced game thanks to Hiroya Hatsushiba’s “Flexible Voice Driver,” which allowed impressive voice acting and a fully voiced opening song, Yume wa Owaranai by Yoshida Yukari. The character designs by Kōsuke Fujishima gave it a distinct anime look, and it introduced the Linear Motion Battle System used throughout the series.
