’m back! After a few days off to manage some shin splints and a rolled ankle, it was time to test the legs again. There’s no better place for a comeback than the iconic Severn Bridge.
The Plan:
Session: A 5-minute run followed by a 1-minute walk to ease back into the Couch to 5K program.
Course: Out and back across the bridge—a total of over 3 miles!
Conditions: Overcast, breezy, and plenty of traffic noise, but the views of the estuary made it all worth it.
The Reality Check: Coming back from injury is always a challenge. That 5-minute run was a real test, and I’ll admit I ended up walking more than I planned on the way out. Sometimes you have to listen to your body and adjust. On the way back, I switched to a strategy of running for two lamp posts and walking for one, which felt much more manageable.
Looking Ahead: I’m thrilled to have ticked the Severn Bridge off my list. Next up? I’ve got my sights set on the Prince of Wales Bridge. It’s all about those small wins as I build back up.
Have you ever had to adapt your training plan mid-run? What’s your favorite iconic route? Let me know in the comments below!
