Описание: We discuss the most expensive thing on campus today—freedom to speak. We analyze UGC's new 2026 rule on equity in higher education, which aims to protect SC, ST, OBC, women, and disabled students. While the intention is right, we explore how the rule's implementation creates a chilling effect where people fear speaking freely. We examine how previous laws like the SC/ST Act and Women Protection Law, though well-intentioned, were misused. We highlight concerns about the final version removing provisions for action on false complaints and the accused's right to be heard. We question whether equity centers, ambassadors, and squads represent safety or surveillance. We emphasize that while discrimination is real and serious, true equity requires respect and space for disagreement on campus, not fear-based compliance. We ask: will this rule be a shield protecting vulnerable students or a sword silencing dialogue?
