FINAL RIDE on ALL BANKS of Westinghouse Selectomatic Elevators at Tampa Int'l Airport Main Terminal

Well guys, after 50 years of being Westinghouse Elevators, in September of 2021, the elevators here at Tampa International Airport's Main Terminal are now being COMPLETELY modernized!!!
As of September 20th of 2021, Schindler has began a full and complete modernization of these elevators into 6400s, and these will likely have MAD fixtures and look similar to the Long Term Garage (which JUST got modernized earlier this year). As you can obviously tell by the chimes in the videos as well as the cabs, these elevators have received some partial mods over the years, around 2005-2007ish Schindler came in and replaced the OG Selectomatic Relay Logic Controllers with Schindler 500A controllers and added the voice we've all come to know and love with these elevators, in 2013, the lanterns, call stations and chimes on floors 1-3 were replaced and then in 2017, Schindler came in and did a total makeover to the elevator cabs of all of the elevators in the Main Terminal. However, despite the changes these elevators have had over the years, they have still retained their original Westinghouse Lanterns & Dinner Bells, Machines, Interlocks, Indicators and Westinghouse AE Fixtures that have been in use since the Current Main Terminal opened in 1971, but now that is all about to change.

As you guys would probably expect, I am incredibly sad about this upcoming modernization, not just because these are the last remaining Westinghouse Traction Elevators with Classic AE Fixtures and Dinner Bells in Central Florida, but because these elevators were some of the VERY FIRST Elevators I remember riding as a little toddler, and I've ridden these elevators many times over the years through thick and thin, and so these elevators are very sentimental to me and I'm incredibly sad to see them go.

With that said however, I'm also thankful they lasted as long as they did, as you guys may remember, back when they were redoing the cabs back in 2017 (and replacing the escalators), I thought the elevators were going to be modernized right then and there! But instead, they lasted 4 AND A HALF YEARS LONGER than I thought they would, and while I still do enjoy these elevators, these definitely have lost a certain vintage charm they used to have before they redid the cabs in 2017.
Regardless however, these elevators are going to be missed an awful lot, even if Schindler hits it out of the park with the mod. Just know though that there are grief counselors here if you need them, and NOTE that the modernization JUST STARTED so if you guys REALLY want to film an original elevator here, you guys still have a little less than 2 years left before you lose your chance to see these for good, so get here if you can before March of 2023 if you want to see these!!!

Modernized:

1st Modernization: Circa 2005-2007 (Schindler 500A controller replacement, digital indicators added outside. Motors, cabs, indicators, lanterns, Interlocks, Fixtures, etc. all left original.)

Call Stations and lanterns on Floors 1-3 replaced in 2013, Cab interiors overhauled in 2017.

To be Modernized Again: September 2021-June 2023 (Schindler 6400 mod with New Fixtures, New Lanterns, New Cabs, New Controllers, New Interlocks, New Motors, etc. Only the cabs which are already redone will remain the same.)
