The Altar of the Heart
(Verse 1)
The road of death is paved with stone,
When we choose to walk the path alone.
But if the wicked turns away from sin,
The gates of life will let him in.
"He shall surely live" (Ezekiel 18:21),
A brand-new life is waiting to begin.

O Lord Jesus, soften the pride within,
Where mercy ends, the shadows begin.
I leave my gift, I leave my soul's decree,
To find the brother who has fled from me.
In Your arms, Father, I am finally free.

If You should mark our every stain,
"Who can stand" (Psalm 130:3) against the pain?
But plenteous redemption flows from Your side,
To drown the ego and the walls of pride.
Let kindness be the anchor and the guide.

Before the altar, stop and stay,
Do not turn your face and walk away.
"Be reconciled quickly" (Matthew 5:25) to your friend,
Before the journey reaches its final end.
Only love can make the broken spirit mend.
