1. Noosa Council in Qld, Australia lost nearly $2 million to an AI-powered scam. This was social engineering, not a system failure. We don't yet know the exact details but speculation has been that the scammers allegedly used
Deepfake emails
Cloned voices, and
Exploited trust
Cybercriminals are targeting people and tech.
2. California has introduced new legislation to regulate AI chatbots used by minors. It’s the first law of its kind and includes:
Age restrictions
Clear AI disclaimers
Mandatory safeguards for risky conversations
These are two very different cases, but the message is the same:
AI needs boundaries, and we can’t wait for the next crisis to draw them.
