After a quiet opening, the match was turned on it’s head in the 19th minute when Taylor Evans was given a straight red card for a challenge on Jordan Ellis who had to be replaced due to an ankle injury.

The home side made the most of the man advantage by striking twice before the interval thanks to Jarrad Welch on 34 minutes and Harvey Hughes four minutes later. An injury time free kick also rattled the Blues crossbar.

Port Talbot seemed down and out at the break but after goalkeeper Jake Stephens escaped punishment for a foul outside the penalty area, the visitors launched a spirited fightback led by captain Aidan Chappell-Smith who calmly rounded goalkeeper Jacob Ireland after a through pass from replacement Jac Sudale.

With time running out, Port Talbot found the equaliser their efforts deserved on 85 minutes when Kieran Hayes drove left footed into the net from just inside the penalty area.

It looked as though the Blues had pulled a point out of the fire but just two minutes later, a shot ricocheted off the crossbar and Withers was first to react and head into an unguarded net for the decisive strike.
