Tragic Tsunami Refuge - Ermita Hill, Baler | VLOG 48

Описание: Long before a catastrophic event occurred in Baler, it was in the early morning of December 1735 that the town was engulfed by a tsunami or better known in the early years of the Spanish Missionaries as the ‘tromba marina’. Mysteriously, the only impacted area was the municipality of Baler.
A missionary who was then on a vacation in Baler and a few accounted families survived the torrent by swimming to the nearby hill known in this day and age as the Ermita Hill. The statues depict the seven families who managed to cling to life and rebuild the civilization in the aftermath of cataclysm.

Then and now there is no rest from adapting to a life in the Pacific Ring of Fire and the alleyway of typhoons, the Philippines will never be disaster-proof as the experts say. Yet those who get a glimpse of this collage of colors on the Philippine palette would gush in astonishment at how resilient the Filipinos are!
