Part 1 in a series of attempting to connect an external hard drive to the Raspberry Pi 2.
In this episode, I try to use a SATA-to-USB converter board (which was purchased as "junk" for 300 yen at Akihabara) which runs the SATA hard drive, powered off of the USB port.
Unfortunately, the experiment fails, as the hard drive is not able to start-up when connected to the Raspberry Pi 2. (There were many signs of problems, which are mentioned in the annotations.)
At this point, the reason for the failure is not known, but we'll start to find issues which will lead to Part 2, and the yet unfilmed Part 3.
