Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2023 Chevy Equinox we're going to be showing you how to install the Curt 4-way Flat Trailer Wiring Harness. Before we get into that though, let's just take a minute, check this out and make sure it's going to work for you. When it comes to the Equinox, you know, pretty popular SUVs and relatively capable and so people use them to do a lot of different things, which does include pulling some trailers around. And if that's what you plan on doing, you're going to need a way to illuminate the lights on the trailer. That way you're not only safe, but legal as well 'cause that is a requirement in all the states here.

With that said, this is going to get the job done, let you plug into your trailer and get everything powered up. So pretty standard four-way flat type connector which is going to be real common for the types of trailers that the Equinox are going to be pulling. And this is going to give you your turn signals, your brake lights, as well as your tail lights. The way I actually secured our wiring, just used the dust cap to run it around the safety chain openings on our hitch there. And then just to help kind of clean up the install look, I grabbed about a foot or so this wire loom, put it on there, help it blend in a little bit.

So that's always an option. If you'd rather have this mounted up, you can't get a bracket like this. And what I've done in the past, is there's actually a couple factory screws, I've pulled them out and actually just used those to attach a bracket like this to the bottom of the bumper. So just wanted to give you a couple options there as far as that goes. When it comes to the Equinox, this is a vehicle you definitely want to double check our fit guide and see the dropdown menu to make sure if you have, you know, a factory tow package, one that doesn't have it, certain types of tail lights 'cause there's a couple different configurations with these setups.

The majority of the time, at least from my experience, almost all of them are going to have the factory tow package and that holds true even if you don't have a hitch on there from the factory or anything like that. Really all it means is does this have a connector plug behind the bumper here, right from the factory And like I said, almost all of them that I ran into do so, you know, before you pick up wiring, probably not a bad idea, if you go to your Equinox, take a quick peek behind there and make sure you have it. That way you get what you need the first time. But with that said, you know, because of that, it makes installation really easy. Little tricky to get to but not a huge deal, you know, really you're just going to have to plug it in, secure it, drop this down and that's really all there is to it.

So if you'd like to hang around, we'll go ahead and get started on it now. So to begin our installation, we're going to be here at the back of our Equinox and there's going to be a factory connector plug located right here in this area just behind our bumper. So to give us a little more room to work and see, we can remove a fastener that way the bumper has some flexibility in it there. The fastener you want to remove is this one right here in the middle. It's a T 15. (tool operating) And by pulling that out, you know, we just have a little more room to work. So if you look behind the bumper, this is where that factory connector plug is going to be located and that's what we're going to use to plug our trailer wiring into it. With that said, it does have a dummy plug on it, it's just a protective cap that you'll have to remove. To make it easier to see, I'll go ahead and pull that off and then I'll show you how to do that once I have that done. Here's a better look at that dummy plug. All you're going to do is take this red tab and pull back on it until it is in this position. And then that black piece here in the center, you can push down on that, and while you're pushing down on that, that will release it and you'll be able to separate it from the connector. And grab our new trailer wiring harness. And I kind of prepped it a little bit. These relays, I just zip tied them together, that way they're not bouncing around individually. It'd be easier to kind of secure once it's up under the car 'cause there's not a ton of space. And while I was at it, I j
