How to develop the long and triple jump run-up
Want to know how to structure a long or triple jump run-up that will maximise your jump? Then watch this video. Coach John Shepherd (http://www.johnshepherdfitness.com) breaks the run-up down into its phases and explains the differences between the triple and long jump approaches. He also addresses the issue of whether and when to look at the board. There's a specific section on foot placement for the long jump and thoughts on knee lift and hip height as it affects speed through the board. Analysis is provided of jumps over 16m for the TJ and 7.50 in the LJ for men and 5.80m for women. The jumpers in the video are at various stages of development and this is something that may be relevant to those of you watching from around the world.
This is a complicated subject with various ideas in the perfect run-up, this is my interpretation through research and experience. Other coaches may have different views/ideas.
