On January 8, 1980, Braniff International announced a new service campaign dubbed, The Braniff Promise. Braniff felt confident that ultimately the carrier that provided the finest in service throughout its operation would also be successful during the deregulated environment of the 1980s and wanted to emphasize its commitment to providing that service with the new campaign. The accompanying advertising for the new campaign commenced a week later on January 15, 1980.
The Promise Campaign was designed to let the fabled carrier's customers know that a new commitment was being made to provide the finest airline service in the industry by every one of Braniff's 15000 employees. The central core of the campaign was a main Braniff Promise followed by ten specific promises of superb service that the airline would once again provide its customers, while leading the industry.
Braniff's sleek new television media was heralded with an impressive commercial that featured Braniff employees dressed in their chic Halston designed uniforms standing before a background of colorful Braniff flags. Each employee would make a promise to Braniff's customers such as the promise to fly meticulously maintained airplanes and to run an on-time airline. Harding Lawrence felt that only Braniff employees could make promises to Braniff customers rather than paid actors. Mr. Lawrence himself lent his voice as narrator for the colorful spots that featured a happy musical jingle with the "We Better Be Better" slogan.
In this tv commercial, Braniff flight crews walk The Grand Promenade at Braniff destinations across the world. This is still one of Braniff's most popular commercials.
