I decided to take my Harley Davidson Pan America Special to South Dakota and try out a few OHV/ATV trails while I was there. I was staying near Custer, so the Martin ATV Trail System made sense.

You'll need a $25.00 OHV pass to use the trails systems, but with thousands of miles of trails to explore, it made that purchase pretty easy. The passes are good for a calendar year, and can be purchased online (https://www.blackhillsbadlands.com/st...) or in person.

I had no idea what to expect on the 'rowdy-ness' scale. I entered the trails at the Bluebird Trailhead, and followed a gravel road in. The first mile or so on the gravel road was as tame as you'd expect from a gravel road, and I was starting to lose some stoke until I encountered a dirt off-shoot that went into the park area.

I explored several of the dirt trails, encountering no one throughout the day. The temps began to warm as I decided to explore an 'out-and-back' look out trail called 'Redtail'. It had a few pitchy spots with some loose material. Dropping cameras along the way, I hit a spot I felt comfortable turning around on (you could certainly continue on) and heading back down. I was a bit fatigued, and not excited about the prospects of picking up the bike while tired.

I'd been riding on some new Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires. They'd performed 'ok', but it's tough to give up the trail benefits of knobbies. Their road manners were a welcome change however.
