This accurately re-creates an incredible accident that occurred in Florida due to a faulty tire. When the drivers front left tire blew out, he lost control of his rig, and even with all brakes applied, it didn't stop the truck from crashing through an overhead ramp barrier and traveling 43 feet through the air. The driver, amazingly, lived but was severely and permanently injured.
This animation was used at a legal hearing in 2003, along with police and lab reports to press for compensation from the tire manufacturer. Analysis of the tire revealed that the vulcanization process (the heating of layers to fuse them together) was not properly performed, resulting in the front left tire failed while the truck was traveling at approximately 70mph. The tire company agreed that they had sold a defective product, and compensated the injured truck driver for his injuries and loss of income from permanent disabilities.
