Located in Claude, Texas, just outside of Amarillo, MERUS Adventure offers over 52 miles of world-class Jeep trails and overlanding camping inside the second-largest canyon in the United States. With 900-foot elevation drops and 5,500 acres of untouched beauty, it’s a bucket-list destination for any 4x4 enthusiast.

🛠️ The Adventure: From Rim Views to Trail Damage
Day 1: Arrival in the Panhandle, recovery on CR 9, and camping at the canyon rim (Site 181).
Day 2: Exploring the canyon floor. Navigating Landry's Landing and Merus 101 (Green/3) before stepping up to Blue trails like Salt Fork and Lonesome Dove.
Day 3: High-stakes rim riding on VR4 North (Blue/5). This trail features 400-foot cliffside drops, off-camber sections, and incredible overlooks at Cable Point and Hetz’s Bluff.
Day 4: The Big One. Attempting the Huckleberry Jeep Badge of Honor trail. After conquering the rock garden, I sustained sidewall damage and had to "punch out" at the Mars trail.
Day 5: A haunting night ride along the canyon rim before the long drive back to Georgia.
