One of the most obvious ways to use yarn-overs is for increasing, but large eyelets can distort the fabric and disrupt the visual plane of your knitting. In this part, we will cover the first of four ways we can increase starting with the simplest no hole yarn-overs – this is the way I prefer to work increases along the edge of my shawls. You can use this simple increase for any garter stitch since the direction of the increases isn’t a concern.

Materials:
1 ball of #4 worsted yarn; smooth, round yarn is preferable.
1 set straight needles in appropriately sized needles for selected yarn
Removable marker to mark center stitch; 1 measuring tape; scissors
Instructions:
CO 5 sts. Knit 1 row.
Row 1 (RS) K2, yo, knit to last 2 sts, yo, k2—2 sts inc’d.
Row 2 (WS) K2, k1 tbl, knit to last 3 sts, k1 tbl, k2.
Rep Rows 1 and 2, 8 more times—23 sts.
With RS facing, BO all sts loosely.
