Double Central Increase + Mock I-Cord Bind-off
This video explores the double central increase - popularized by the boom in brioche knitting, however this is a really fun and easy increase for any time you need to increase two stitches such as staying in pattern for ribbing.
Skip to 2:18 to skip our pre-tutorial antics wink and stick around to the very end to see an example of the increase used for increasing in twisted rib.
Materials
1 ball of #4 worsted yarn; smooth, round yarn is preferable (2 colors).
1 set straight needles in appropriately sized needles for selected yarn.
Removable marker to mark center stitch.
Stitches
[k1, yo, k1] Central double increase: knit into next st on left needle, do not drop from left needle, yo, knit into st on left needle once more and drop from left needle—2 sts inc’d
BYO Backward yarnover: bring yarn over needle from back to front.
SWATCH
CO 5 sts. Knit 2 rows.
Row 1 (WS) K2, p1 and mark as center st, k2.
Row 2 (RS) Knit to center st, [k1, yo, k1] into center st, knit to end—2 sts inc’d.
Row 3 K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2.
Rep Rows 2 and 3, 6 more times, then rep Row 2 once more—21 sts.
Next row (WS) Knit.
Next row Rep Row 2—23 sts.
With WS facing, BO all sts as foll: K1, *byo, k1, p2so; rep from * to end, break yarn and pull tail through last st, pulling tight to secure.
