The Chevrolet Corvette C7, produced from 2014–2019, was the seventh generation of the iconic sports car. Originally intended as a mid-engine supercar, the Great Recession forced GM to compromise and keep the engine in front. The C7 was the first Corvette to use the Stingray name since 1976.
Design: The C7 had an edgy, angular style, a muscular front end, and taillights that differed from previous models. It borrowed some design cues from the C6, like exposed headlights.
Engine: The base LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine produced 450 hp and was paired with a 7-speed manual or 6/8-speed automatic transmission.
Production: Due to GM's bankruptcy, production didn't begin until late 2013, delaying the C7's impact on the industry. Chevrolet invested millions to overhaul their Bowling Green, Kentucky plant for C7 production.
Racing: The C7.R racing variant won the GTLM 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Legacy: The C7 is expected to be the last front-engine Corvette, as its successor, the C8, has a mid-engine layout.
AWE's Corvette exhaust history focuses on maximizing sound and power for C6, C7, and C8 models using T304L stainless steel, 180 Technology® drone-cancellation, and distinct "Touring" (civilized) or "Track" (rowdy) editions. Following success with C7/C8, they expanded to the C6, providing popular, handcrafted, and warranty-backed, 50-state legal, cat-back systems.
Key Historical Developments
C6 Corvette (2005–2013): AWE released a specialized suite for the LS2/LS3/LS7 and Z06/ZR1 platforms, adding to their lineup due to popular demand from events like Corvettes at Carlisle. These systems offer Touring (with 180 Technology®) or Track editions, with reported gains of up to +20 hp +20 hp and +12 lb-ft + 12 lb-ft of torque.
C7 Corvette (2014–2019): Known for notorious and aggressive exhaust notes for Stingray, Z51, Grand Sport, and Z06/ZR1, these systems introduced the use of AFM valve simulators to prevent check engine lights while reducing weight.
C8 Corvette (2020–2026+): AWE established a strong footprint with their 180 Technology® that eliminates drone without restricting airflow, saving 31 lbs (Touring) to 39 lbs (Track) over the stock, mid-engine system. They later introduced the SwitchPath™ exhaust for the Z06, retaining factory valve control.
Manufacturing: All AWE Corvette exhausts are designed, engineered, and manufactured in-house in Pennsylvania, USA.
Engineering Focus: The company uses 3" CNC mandrel-bent tubing and focuses on a "straight-through" design that is 50-state emissions-compliant.
