Earth Voices is a setting of parts of Canadian poet Bliss Carmen's work by Ottawa composer Laura Hawley. The lyrics point to our connection to nature and conclude with this thought: "The life we give to beauty returns to us again."
Niska Banja is a Serbian Gypsy dance set by Nick Page. This is a joyful song about the mineral springs of the town of Nis.
The goals of the Langley Children’s choir are to promote enthusiasm and a love of singing, to introduce singers to a wide variety of musical styles, to develop vocal technique and music reading skills, and to foster commitment and build community. Directors Patti Thorpe and Kim Hardy, and accompanist Heather Hicks have all worked with the choir for more than twenty years of great music making and fun activities, and they and the choir are thrilled to be a part of TedX. The singers are in grades 3 – 8 and come from many different schools in the Langley area and rehearse weekly at Langley Secondary School.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
