Trangia - Open Spirit Stove - Boil Test #2

Описание: In my last video I did my first boil test on the Trangia kit that I got from my local Army Navy store for $14.99. After doing some research on the trangia website (www.trangia.se) it looks like they call this kit the "Open Spirit Stove Nr 162423". No price listed.

The boil time in that test was 2 cups of water starting at 60°F came to a full boil (212°F) in 8 minutes 39 seconds. Not a real bad time but not a real good boil time either.

In that video I mentioned that the distance from top of burner to bottom of pot on the potstand was about 3/4". The distance from jets to bottom of pot on the potstand was about 7/8". From previous tests I've found that the distance from top of burner to bottom of pot should be closer to 1". In the past we've even seen that some potstands for the Trangia burner work better upside-down for that reason. I was wondering if that was the problem here.

Since then I've gotten comments from TheBeebopper, zuseable and CatskillMountainGirl where they suggested that I put the Trangia burner on the ground, under the potstand. Doing as they suggested makes the distance from top of burner to bottom of pot on the potstand was about 1 5/8". The distance from jets to bottom of pot on the potstand was about 1 3/4".

So that's what I trying in this video. And guess what? Putting the burner under the potstand increased the distance from top of burner to bottom of pot and saved almost 2 and a half minutes on the boil time. Cool. And that's without even trying the wind screen to contain the heat.
