Описание: "I feel good at 36, really good, and I don’t plan on stopping playing anytime soon," says Marcus Haber.

The Canadian striker joined Nongbua Pitchaya FC on loan from Chonburi FC at the start of the season after three successful years in the Cambodian Premier League.

Stepping up to Thai League 1 was a challenge he welcomed. "It’s been a fight, it’s been a grind, there are no easy games in this league. I wanted to challenge myself and play at the highest level possible that I’m able to."

Having played in England, Scotland, and Canada, Haber has experienced a range of football styles and cultures, but Thai football presents a unique challenge.

"It’s incomparable to European football [and games are] hectic, for sure. Anything can happen at any time. Especially second halves of games when there’s space, it can be very end-to-end and very exciting to watch."

Adjusting to the demands of Southeast Asian football required him to rethink his approach to fitness. "In the heat, I figured I was going to have to get fitter, and a bit leaner […] and I got myself in the best shape I’ve ever been – and I’ve maintained that."

Haber is "really enjoying" life at Nongbua Pitchaya, where the "community feel" and the energy of the club’s "outstanding and passionate" fans have made a strong impression.

"ผมรู้สึกดีมากกับการเล่นฟุตบอลในวัย 36 ปี ดีจริง ๆ และยังไม่มีแผนที่จะเลิกเล่นเร็ว ๆ นี้" มาร์คัส ฮาเบอร์ กล่าว

กองหน้าชาวแคนาดาย้ายมาร่วมทีมหนองบัว พิชญ เอฟซี ด้วยสัญญายืมตัวจากชลบุรี เอฟซี เมื่อต้นฤดูกาล หลังจากใช้เวลา 3 ปีที่ประสบความสำเร็จในลีกสูงสุดของกัมพูชา การก้าวขึ้นมาเล่นในไทยลีก 1 เป็นความท้าทายที่เขายินดีรับมือ

"มันเป็นการต่อสู้ เป็นการทำงานหนัก ไม่มีเกมไหนง่ายเลยในลีกนี้ ผมอยากท้าทายตัวเองและเล่นในระดับที่สูงที่สุดเท่าที่ผมจะทำได้"

ด้วยประสบการณ์จากการค้าแข้งในอังกฤษ สกอตแลนด์ และแคนาดา ฮาเบอร์ได้สัมผัสวัฒนธรรมฟุตบอลที่หลากหลาย แต่ฟุตบอลไทยนำเสนอความท้าทายที่แตกต่างออกไป

"มันเทียบกับฟุตบอลยุโรปไม่ได้เลย เกมที่นี่โกลาหลมาก อะไรก็เกิดขึ้นได้ตลอดเวลา โดยเฉพาะครึ่งหลังของเกมที่มีพื้นที่มากขึ้น มันสามารถเป็นเกมที่เปิดแลกกันสุดมัน และน่าตื่นเต้นมาก ๆ"

การปรับตัวให้เข้ากับฟุตบอลในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ทำให้เขาต้องคิดใหม่เรื่องความฟิตของตัวเอง "ในสภาพอากาศร้อนแบบนี้ ผมรู้ว่าผมต้องฟิตขึ้น ต้องลีนขึ้นอีกนิด [...] และผมก็ทำให้ตัวเองอยู่ในสภาพที่ดีที่สุดเท่าที่เคยเป็นมา และยังรักษามันไว้ได้"

ฮาเบอร์ "มีความสุขมาก" กับชีวิตที่หนองบัว พิชญ เอฟซี โดยเฉพาะความรู้สึกเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชุมชน และพลังจากแฟนบอลที่ "ยอดเยี่ยมและเปี่ยมไปด้วยความหลงใหล" ซึ่งสร้างความประทับใจให้เขาอย่างมาก
