Brief about Shilpa Mhatre:
Shilpa Mhatre is a highly accomplished FMCG leader with over 28 years of experience spanning product development, consumer insights, innovation and Design Thinking across India and international markets. Currently Head – Consumer Technical Insights (CTI) & Design at Marico Limited, she spent 17 years building and institutionalising the CTI function, significantly improving innovation success rates, market launches and cost efficiencies. She has led category-defining innovations such as Saffola Masala Oats, created in-house design and packaging capabilities, integrated digitisation for consumer immersion and insights, and collaborated closely with R&D, marketing and procurement to drive predictable, scalable growth. Her work has influenced multiple categories including hair care, skin care, wellness foods and premium personal care, while also supporting Marico’s expansion into Bangladesh, the Middle East and Southeast Asia through strong cross-functional and international leadership.
Earlier, Shilpa served as Director – Qualitative Product Research at Lumiere Business Solutions, managing marquee clients like HUL and Lakme, and began her career at Lakme (Hindustan Lever Ltd.) as a Senior R&D Executive, gaining deep technical expertise in formulation and sensory science. Beyond innovation, she brings strong governance, people and culture credentials—having chaired Marico’s POSH Committee for six years, mentored leaders across functions, and contributed to shaping the company’s mission, purpose and values. With expertise spanning strategic leadership, innovation and R&D strategy, financial value creation, digital transformation, stakeholder management and ESG awareness, Shilpa is a board-ready leader who combines consumer-centric insight, business acumen and ethical leadership to drive sustainable growth and long-term brand value.
