Basketball has always been two games at once: the polished, textbook version taught by coaches… and the raw, unpredictable magic, born on the blacktop. The NBA, at its best, is where those two worlds collide. Let’s do something fun, and talk about streetball play versus fundamentals. Six players, three battles, three different styles, but only one question: when skill meets style, who truly owns the court? Let’s run it!
Before Nick Van Exel ever suited up for the Lakers in the ‘90s, his game was already written in streetball graffiti. Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Van Exel wasn’t the kind of player who followed every coaching manual. At Trinity Valley Community College, then at Cincinnati, he carved a reputation as a fearless guard who could create a shot out of thin air. Standing only 6’1” and 170 pounds, he played with an edge—like every possession was personal.
Van Exel’s calling card? The pull-up three-pointer in transition, long before Steph Curry made it fashionable. He played with tempo, flair, and a chip on his shoulder. In 1993–94, his rookie year with the Lakers, he averaged 13.6 points and 5.1 assists, instantly becoming a fan favorite for his no-fear approach. His career peaked in 1999–2000 with Denver when he averaged 17.7 points and 8.5 assists.
Basketball is a clash of styles, mixing polished coaching and streetball magic. This video explores how flashy moves and disciplined techniques combine on the NBA stage, asking which style truly wins. We will observe players using basketball moves and fundamentals.
