0:57 We are at the CSX Middle Road crossing on 19 February 2022 looking west at the curve coming off the east end of the elevated tracks through Dunkirk, New York. At 1:09 we see the headlight of CSX train #I166 peeking around the trees as the dispatcher talks to the engineer that there is a problem with the second out car on the train. About three miles west, train #I166 went over the CSX defect detector at Mile Post 42.6 which must have found with that car. At 2:29 a mid-train DPU appears. CSX train #I166 is slowing down.
5:08 You have moved from the CSX Middle Road crossing to the CSX Harrington Road crossing in Sheridan, New York as the gates go down. CSX train #I166 is approaching the crossing at a speed of 10 Miles Per Hour because of a hot box on the second car from the lead engine. It is unclear as to whether the second car out is a three or five unit articulated well car. The hot box (wheel bearing) was first detect by the CSX defect detector at CSX Mile Post 42.6. The train is going at the 10 Mile Per Hour speed because it has to travel about another eight miles before the car with the hot box (wheel bearing) car taken out of the train and be put on a siding as a bad order car. As train #I166 continues to pass us, we see the mid-train DPU appear again at 8:04.
10:56 We are still at the Harrington Road crossing in Sheridan, New York on 19 February 2022. At 11:14 we hear the warning horn of CSX train #I008 approaching eastbound train on track #1. At 11:35 the lead engine of CSX train #I008 crosses Harrington Road. At 11:51 we can see the end of CSX train #I166 as it has passed under the signal bridge that is about least a half mile east of the Harrington Road crossing. At 12:05 train #I008, which is on track #1, knocks down the green signal light on the signal bridge east of Harrington Road. At 12:44 a mid-train DPU appears on CSX train #I008
16:00 We are at the Berry Road crossing in Pomfret, New York looking west on 20 February 2022. You zoom in on CSX train #Q560 approaches the Martin/Willow Road crossing. We catch a glimpse of the I-90, New York State Thruway, bridge over the Norfolk Southern and CSX tracks in the background. This is the first time that we have seen that bridge from the Berry Road crossing since the beginning of December 2021 when the weather was warmer and you were able to stand out of your car to take videos. At 16:38 the gates go down at the Lake Road crossing. At 17:31 the lead engine of CSX train #Q560 passes the Berry Road crossing. At 20:18 the gates go up at the Van Buren Road crossing at train #Q560 continues east.
20:34 We are still at the Berry Road crossing in Pomfret, New York on 20 February 2022. We hear the horn of Norfolk Southern train #206 as it is approaching the Berry Road crossing. At 20:45 the lights start to flash on the gates at the Norfolk Southern crossing of Berry Road. At 21:09 a BNSF powered Norfolk Southern train #206 crosses Berry Road. At 22:03 the Norfolk Southern defect detector at Mile Post 46.3 reports that there are no defects on train #206. At 22:26 the Norfolk Southern defect detector repeats its report.
22:42 We are at the CSX Middle Road crossing looking west. As you zoom in on the curve at 22:47 we see the CSX jet engine snow Melter on the left in the CSX Dunkirk Rail Yard. This piece of Maintenance of Way equipment has a real jet airplane engine mounted on a self-propelled piece of maintenance equipment that is used to melt snow from the switches in the Dunkirk Rail Yard. At 22:58 CSX train #I168 appears heading into the curve approaching the Middle Road crossing on 20 February 2022. After train #I168 passes, you zoom in on the signals on the Control Point 37 signal bridge to see when the lights will go out. The lights go out at 26:19.
26:32 We are at the Berry Road crossing in Pomfret, New York on 20 February 2022 as the Norfolk Southern gates are flashing and going down. At 26:57 we hear the horn of Norfolk Southern train #23K blowing a warning of its approach. At 27:03 two BNSF engines cross Berry Road as the power for train #23K. At 28:36 the Norfolk Southern defect detector at Norfolk Southern Mile Post 46.3 announces that there are no defects on Norfolk Southern train #23K. At 29:00 the Norfolk Southern defect detector repeats its announcement.
