A Walk Among the Konyaks, Episode 9: A Walk in Nyahnyu Village
Nyahnyu village is a fascinating Konyak Naga settlement located a few kilometers from the border of Indian and Myanmar, a short-but-scenic trek from the much better known village of Longwa. It's name means "hornet" in the local dialect. The village was a close ally of the kings of Longwa, who viewed Nyahnyu's warriors as especially ferocious. Fighting them was like fighting a nest of hornets!
I visited Nyahnyu for a few night in early 2023, and stayed as a guest of the king of the village, Luhwang Aching. In this video, you'll see various sites in the village, including a giant log drum, a local blacksmith, numerous skulls, a headhunter who killed two enemies in battle, and a king's longhouse.
A very special thanks to my guides Atoh Aching and Nokyen Khongwang, the warrior Longmong Gojei, and the king of Nyahnyu village, Luhwang Aching.
