A Walk Among the Konyaks, Episode 11: Trekking from Nyahnyu Village to Shianghachingnyu Village
After spending a few nights in Nyahnyu village as the guest of the king, I set out for the much larger Konyak Naga settlement of Shianghachingnyu. There is a path between these two villages, but it’s not well travelled. It might be better described as a network of narrow cow tracks. I made a few wrong turns on this walk.
That said, I also passed into and out of several lovely valleys, crossed a totally unexpected living root bridge, and got a closeup look at a booze smuggler’s homemade black powder gun. Drawing a straight line on Google Earth, the distance between Nyahnyu and Shianghachingnyu is only 5kms, but there’s quite a bit of extremely rugged terrain packed into those 5kms.
Quite the adventure.
