We squatted the building at the best moment -Marco Douma and Kamiel Verschuren Fondation B.A.D.

Описание: Fondation B.A.D. established in Rotterdam in 1987 in an old bathhouse. Since 1991, it has an occupied space in Charlois, south Rotterdam. In the interview Marco Douma and Kamiel Verschuren talks about the artist-run-space.
First we talked about the history of the fondation. There were a small group of artist students who wanted a building for work. They found an old bathhouse, but it was available only for a small period of time. Than Marco and Kamiel squatted another building which was an old school for girls, but was abandoned. The group made a lot of efforts to renovate the building, and after several years, they found a housing corporation who bought the building and the fondation pays rent.
We also discussed about the environment. Charlois is not really far from the city center, but there is a tunnel and it takes around 10 minutes to go there. Marco explained that a lot of people thinking that its too much, for an exhibition opening not everybody travels there although in other cities that distance is minimal. In Paris sometimes one need to travel 1 hour or more for example.
