The Dumbbell Front Squat is a great lower body exercise we use at Good Vibes Physio to build leg and core strength while encouraging a more upright, controlled squat position.
Holding the dumbbells in front helps keep your torso tall, increases quad demand, and reinforces good squat mechanics — making it a great option for both rehab and strength training.
We use this exercise in physio and performance programs to help people:
✅ Build strong quads, glutes, and core
✅ Improve squat technique and control
✅ Reduce excessive forward lean and lower back strain
✅ Build strength that carries over to sport and daily life
How to do it:
Hold one or two dumbbells at your shoulders in a front rack position.
Sit down into a squat while keeping your chest tall and core braced.
Drive back up to standing with control and repeat.
Stay tall. Stay braced. Stay smooth.
