The Interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS is warming up as it approaches the sun and exhibits an infrared radiation mostly originating from dust particles in the coma. Using a telescope equipped with a cooled camera and near-infrared (NIR) filter I was able to produce images of the comet not visible to the human eye. Challenging was my observation on October 1, 2025, when the comet was already close to the sun, with just minutes left during darkness setting in and the comet disappearing at the horizon. I was able to make images of the comet (est. mag 13 in NIR) just 5 degrees over the horizon helped by the fact that infrared cuts through thicker layers of the atmosphere. It was one of the last terrestrial sightings of 3I/ATLAS made before perihelion.
