If, God forbid, discord or conflict arises between husband and wife, and as a result of this tension the children take their mother’s side and say such hurtful words to their father as:
“You are dead in our eyes,”
these words cause deep pain and emotional suffering to the father. In such a situation, the very first thing a father must adopt is patience, forbearance, and self-restraint, because anger at such moments only worsens the situation.
The father should:
Make sincere efforts to maintain harmony and reconciliation within the family
Pray for the guidance and reformation of his children instead of cursing them
Turn wholeheartedly toward Allah, because "He alone has control over hearts"
It is better for the father to:
Offer two rak‘ahs of Salat al-Hajah
Preferably at the time of Tahajjud, otherwise at any time except the disliked (makruh) hours
And supplicate to Allah with complete sincerity for the obedience, respect, and softness of heart of his children
After every obligatory prayer, he should recite the following supplication:
“And rectify for me my offspring. Indeed, I have turned to You in repentance, and indeed, I am among the Muslims.”
(Qur’an)
While reciting the word “my offspring”, he should visualize his own children in his heart. God willing, the hearts of the children will soften and the spirit of obedience will develop.
For increasing love, harmony, and affection between husband and wife and among family members:
After the Isha prayer
Recite "Ya Wadūd” (O Most Loving)1,400 times.
Blow gently over food or drink and consume it
God willing, love, respect, and peace will enter the hearts.
A harsh sentence uttered by one’s own children may appear to shatter the heart, but it does not diminish the dignity or status of a father. Such moments are, in reality, a test of a father’s patience, composure, and character. The father who chooses supplication over anger, goodwill over curses, and reform over revenge, finds that Allah lightens the burden of his heart and gradually changes the hearts of his children as well. Remember, a child’s deviation is not always a failure; rather, it is a trial. And for those who remain patient during trials, Allah’s help is always near. A relationship bound together with patience and prayer does not break due to temporary resentment; instead, it grows stronger with time.
Allah alone is the One who unites hearts, and He never rejects a sincere supplication.
