In today’s world, many people are facing financial difficulties. Their income is limited, jobs do not seem sufficient, worries and stress keep increasing, and despite making supplications, they feel that no door for ease in sustenance is opening for them.
In such circumstances, we should turn back to the guidance of the Qur’an and the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Whenever the family of the Prophet ﷺ faced financial hardship or difficulty, he would instruct them to establish prayer. On such occasions, he would recite the following verse of the Qur’an:
“And command your family to establish prayer and be steadfast in it. We do not ask you for provision; rather, We provide for you. And the best outcome is for those who have Taqwa (piety).”
(Surah Ta-Ha, 20:132)
This verse clearly teaches us that Allah Himself has taken responsibility for providing sustenance, while our duty is to remain steadfast in prayer.
A Practical Method for Increase in Sustenance
Be punctual in offering the five daily prayers yourself.
Encourage and ensure that all family members are also regular in prayer.
After any prayer:
Recite Durood (Salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ) 11 times at the beginning and 11 times at the end.
Then recite the following supplication 70 times:
Allahumma ikfini bihalālika ‘an harāmika, wa aghninī bifadlika ‘amman siwāk.

Translation:
“O Allah! Suffice me with what You have made lawful instead of what You have made unlawful, and make me independent by Your فضل (grace) from all others besides You.”
Concluding Reflection
Remember, sustenance is not limited to salary or business income alone. Peace of heart, contentment, blessings, and having one’s needs fulfilled are also forms of sustenance. When prayer becomes a firm part of our lives, Allah opens doors of provision from places we never imagined. Therefore, instead of losing hope in difficult times, strengthen your connection with prayer—because Allah never breaks His promises.
