Can't fall asleep? Use the 2-minute rule.
Here's how it works:
If you're not asleep within 2 minutes of lying down, GET UP. Leave your bed. Do something boring - read, fold laundry, sit quietly. Stay up until you feel sleepy again. Then go back to bed.
Why this works:
Your bed should ONLY be for sleeping. When you lie in bed awake, scrolling, worrying, or tossing and turning, you train your brain that "bed = being awake."
The 2-minute rule retrains your brain: Bed = Sleep. Nothing else.
This is called stimulus control therapy, and it's one of the most effective treatments for insomnia.
