Large parts of the world are rural, and the challenges of mobile coverage are global.Jaap van de Beek and Vint Cerf talks about how to get access to mobile coverage everywhere. Vint Cerf, widely known as one of the "Fathers of the Internet," is co-designer of the core protocols and the architecture of the Internet. Today he is vice president and chief Internet evangelist for Google, responsible for identifying new enabling technologies that support the development of advanced, Internet-based products and services. He is an active public face for Google in the Internet world.
Jaap van de Beek is a professor in Signal Processing with Luleå University of Technology. He has spent over two decades in in telecommunications industry and has contributed to the development of three generations of mobile cellular communications systems: from GSM in the nineties to the 4G LTE systems deployed today. He now engages in improving Internet access, wireless network connectivity and cellular radio coverage in rural and remote regions in Sweden and elsewhere This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
