A comparison video of our DeHavilland Beaver on Alaskan Bushwheels versus on its standard sized tires! The standard tyre size for the DHC-2 Beaver is 29 inches, on a 10 inch rim.
On the 35” tundra tyres, the average speed was 110.5 knots (still a lot faster than as a floatplane!) and on the standard tailwheel configuration and stock tires it was 115 knots.
We use the Beaver mostly for tailwheel training and “off airport” bush flying type training, consisting of short takeoff and short landing practice for students.
We also sometimes take the DHC2 to airshows to show off a larger tailwheel aircraft to enthusiasts!
