Ingredients (Serves 4–6)
Meat Filling
• 600 g ground beef
• 1 large onion, finely diced
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 2 carrots, finely diced or grated
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 200–300 ml beef stock (or water + stock cube)
• 1 tsp dried thyme
• 1 tsp dried rosemary
• 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, to thicken)
• Salt & black pepper
• Butter or oil for frying
Mashed Potato Topping
• 1 kg floury potatoes
• 100 g butter
• 100–150 ml milk or cream
• 1 egg yolk (optional, for richness & color)
• Salt & pepper
• Grated cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions
🥘 1. Prepare the Meat Filling
1. Heat butter or oil in a large pan.
2. Brown the ground beef well.
3. Add onion, garlic, and carrots. Cook until softened.
4. Stir in tomato paste and fry for 1 minute.
5. Pour in Worcestershire sauce and beef stock.
6. Season with thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper.
7. Simmer for 10–15 minutes until slightly reduced.
• (Thicken with a cornstarch slurry if needed)
8. Taste and adjust seasoning.

🥔 2. Make the Mashed Potatoes
1. Peel and boil the potatoes until tender.
2. Drain and return to the pot to steam off excess moisture.
3. Mash with butter and milk/cream.
4. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Mix in the egg yolk (optional).

1. Spread the meat mixture evenly in a baking dish.
2. Spoon the mashed potatoes on top and smooth evenly.
3. Use a fork to create ridges (for crispy texture).
4. Sprinkle grated cheese on top if desired.

• 200°C / 390°F (fan off)
• 20–25 minutes
• Optional: grill/broil for the last 3–4 minutes for a golden crust
