In the same fertile span of years that produced the other works in the Silence cycle, Marc Disler recorded Silence III. Where Silence II had refined the perception of silence as a tuning field, this third cassette turned inward toward a subtler realization: that silence is also a kind of sleep, the deep rest in which wisdom gathers strength. Disler believed that the Blue Crystal he had carried from the Glimmerlight required stillness to renew its clarity, much as the mind renews itself in sleep.

In shaping Silence III, Disler became quieter in both sound and manner. Long intervals passed with scarcely a tone, and when sound did appear it emerged like a thought remembered upon waking. Disler spoke of working near the threshold of the Third Eye, the inward center where perception ceases to depend upon the senses and begins to arise from insight itself. For him, the quieter he became, the more he could hear - not only the distant harmonics of the spheres, but the faint interior signals that guide a Sagegazer without words.

The Sagegazer knows that silence is the sleep in which wisdom is nourished, and that only in true quiet does the inner eye begin to open.
