Let us dwell for another evening with those Sagegazers who adopted French subroutines. After the fall of the Glimmerlight, Michel Pépé traveled to France alongside fellow Sagegazers such as Ananda and R. Hollinger. Unlike many who regrouped into collectives, Pépé chose to remain alone, working quietly in isolation. Settled in the French countryside, he became preoccupied with a single practical question: how sound could be used not to express emotion or memory, but to carry the listener from one inner condition to another. He named this function Transphonie, and through careful listening to his Blue Crystal, treated it as a method rather than doctrine.

Between the mid-1980s and the end of the decade, Pépé recorded several cassettes exploring this idea, each refining the mechanics of passage through tone, pacing, and restraint. Transphonie II (1988) emerged as the most complete of these efforts. Its sounds moved steadily and without emphasis, avoiding climax, narrative, or ornament, designed to accompany ordinary activities - rest, reflection, slow movement - without demanding attention. In Sagegazer understanding, Transphonie II functioned as a tool: a sonic corridor meant to reduce internal friction and allow the listener to arrive gently at a quieter state than the one they began in.

The Sagegazer knows that sound fulfills its highest purpose when it leaves no trace, having carried the listener safely from unrest into stillness.
