Growing Medinilla The Truth About Growing this Magnificent Tropical Plant.

Описание: Every year Medinilla sp. is released from growers by the thousands. This plant, an epiphyte in it's natural environment of the Philippines; can also be grown terrestrially (as is observed in many large conservatories around the world). However, growing the correct conditions are paramount for the long term survival of this plant. Often we can "get away" with not providing the correct conditions for certain tropical plants however, i would argue for this particular one, the correct growth conditions are paramount. ie high humidity, a substrate which is moist but not wet and indirect bright light.

A possible position such as a frosted bathroom window, where it may be naturally higher in humidity than a lounge room or office and the light will be sufficiently bright; could be a good location for such a plant. Most houses or apartments can not supply sufficient humidity year round; unless housed within a large vivarium. Medinilla can grow quite large if given appropriate growing conditions and I have seen them 2m high and 2m wide in botanical garden tropical houses in Europe and elsewhere.

Personally, I think this is a difficult plant to maintain in the house or apartment without it being grown in a large vivarium with bright light and constant misting for a high humidity.
