The tuck no-hander is one of the best first freestyle tricks to learn on a mountain bike — stable, stylish, and incredibly fun. In this tutorial, I break down the exact body position, timing, and common mistakes so you can learn it safely and with confidence.
We’ll go step by step from ground practice to riding away clean, with tips on locking the bars into your lap, staying balanced in the air, and setting up the landing. Once you get the extension right, this trick can be held for a long time and looks amazing in photos and videos.
Perfect for riders starting to explore no-handed tricks or adding more style to their jump lines.

Start by practicing the tuck motion on the ground to feel where the bars lock into your lap.
Approach the jump at your normal clearing speed
Pop the jump and stay slightly upright
Tuck the front wheel into your lap and lean your shoulders over the bars to lock them in
Hands off, out to the sides or slightly forward; move your head to one side to avoid the front wheel
Hands back, push down on the bars to guide the front wheel into the landing
Ride away clean and stoked
Tips: Don’t lean forward when tucking, and avoid pinching the head tube with your knees — a solid bar-to-lap lock keeps everything stable.
