How to improve your training and performance in a triathlon while reducing the risk of injury and illness just through the food you eat.
Any endurance athlete needs to eat well to be able to train and race well. A triathlete can massively benefit from eating the right foods and using good nutrition practices to fuel their exercise.
This is part 1 of a 3 part mini series which will cover carbohydrates, protein and fat, with this video focusing on carbohydrates.
We'll go over the science behind carbs so that you can understand what you're eating and why, and how you can use it to your advantage.
We'll cover the 3 main carbohydrates that are important to triathletes - glucose, fructose and glycogen.
Glucose is the main carbohydrate that we use for energy. When it is stored in our body in a chain of glucose it's called glycogen.
Fructose can be used like glucose but it also helps to replenish our glycogen stores
Great sources of complex carbohydrates (eat more or these!) = wholegrain pastas, rice, bread, fruits and veg 🍌🍉🥔🌽
Great sources of simplex carbohydrate (eat less of these!) = jams, honey, energy gels and drinks, refined sugars (like those in sweets and treats)
Then I'll give you 3 tips that will help to keep you fit, healthy and reduce your chance of illness or injury. I'll explain the importance of proper nutrition for recovery so that you have the energy to crush your sessions 💪
