How to: E Ngā Iwi

Описание: This waiata, often performed at gatherings of the Waikato people, is a medley of different songs and haka. According to the book "Ngaa Waiata" published by Waikato-Tainui, there are three composers of this song. Ratapu Sonny Awa (Kaitimutimu Marae, Ngaati Whaawhaakia, Waikato) wrote the beginning, "E Ngaa Iwi". The haka, "Ko Kōmako" performed by the men, is said to be an adaption from the famous Ngāti Porou Haka, "Ruaumoko". This was included into the waiata by Te Ranga Piri Poutapu. The last song, "E Mihi Atu Nei Ko Waikato", was composed by Pareopenui Thompson (Waahi and Hukanui Marae, Ngaati Wairere, Waikato).

The Taniwharau Culture Group is responsible for bringing this medley together in the early 1970's affectionately dubbed by the members as “the medley”.
