The threats and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence (AI) are both poorly understood and at times overblown. This session will address the concrete impact that AI has on people’s rights, based on HRW research on use of AI, including in military contexts, in the gig economy, in social protection systems, and on children’s rights. We will also explore strategies for AI accountability, including through regulation and advocacy with governments and companies. Join Deborah Brown, Deputy Director for Technology and Human Rights, and Bianca Wylie, expert in public interest technology advocacy, in a conversation moderated by Zama Neff, Executive Director, Children’s Rights, on how to safeguard human rights in the age of AI.
