As I stated before, this isn't what I normally do, but my friends were huge fans of this show and one of them bought me the piano book at Kinokuniya in 2017 and I was like oh heck sure I'll record an album just for you lol. Luckily, the anime ended up being a wholesome romantic drama about figure skating and the soundtrack is fantastic, so it was altogether a positive experience.

The show's titular song is not only my favorite of the OST, but quite possibly one of the most well-written pieces for piano from an anime that I've ever encountered. It's incredibly technical, almost etude-like in that it reinforces so many baseline important fundamentals of piano playing like fast scalar passagework and arpeggios while voicing a melody plus maintaining steady stretchy ostinatos in the left hand. If you're an emerging advanced pianist, you should absolutely give this one a shot--it's challenging in a way that will make you better or help you maintain your chops arsenal, as was the case for me. Plus it's very pretty and impressive sounding. I loved working on it!

Although the piano book had a perfectly good solo arrangement, I felt adding some of Joe's viola action would enhance the way this theme represents Yuuri Katsuki's emotional journey, as his chosen theme for his free skate routines--from feeling alone with the solo piano intro to the slow epic buildup of strings and drums when Victor comes into his life. SO SO SOOO grateful to Joe for recording a bazillion viola lines!!!!! 😭😍
