The National Environment Management Authority {NEMA} has ordered the closure of the popular Kiamaiko Slaughterhouses in Huruma Estate in Nairobi. NEMA says the slaughterhouses have failed to comply with set regulations especially in the management of solid and liquid waste- which have largely contributed to the pollution of Nairobi River.
The authority through its County Director of Environment Njoki Mukiri says it will enforce compliance tomorrow morning and that the slaughterhouses will remain shut until traders comply with the set standards on proper disposal.
