Описание: Split Rock Lighthouse State Park in Minnesota is a beautiful 2200-acre park which preserves a stretch of the Lake Superior shoreline. The park is known for the iconic cliff-top Split Rock Lighthouse, a historical landmark operated by the Minnesota Historical Society. The park also offers outdoor recreation including camping, hiking, miles of mountain bike trails and access to Gitchi-Gami State Trail.

Split Rock Lighthouse is a picturesque lighthouse perched on a 130-foot cliff. The lighthouse was built in 1910 in response to a terrible storm on Lake Superior. Due to its remote location, all materials had to be hauled in by boat, until highway 61 was opened in 1924. The light could be seen for twenty-two miles and when it was foggy, the blast of the fog signal rang out every 20 seconds. The lighthouse was retired in 1969 by the US Coast Guard.

The Minnesota Historical Society operates the historic lighthouse and grounds. There is a visitor center with includes exhibits, films, and a gift shop. You can tour the lighthouse and head lightkeepers home, which has been restored to how it looked in the 1920’s. There is a separate fee to enter the historic site.

In 2022, Split Rock Lighthouse State Park opened the Shipwreck Creek Campground which offers 46 electric sites. The state park also has 20 cart-in sites and 4 backpack sites. It is important to note that at the time of this recording, the campground does not yet have a dump station or water fill station.
