Assam is a beautiful state in Northeast India known for its rich culture, green tea gardens, wildlife, and the mighty Brahmaputra River. The state is famous for its delicious Assam tea and the vibrant Bihu festival, which celebrates the agricultural seasons with music and dance.

Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in Assam and is home to the rare one-horned rhinoceros. The capital of Assam is Dispur, while Guwahati is the largest city and an important cultural center.

Assam is also known for its traditional handloom, silk, and warm hospitality. With its natural beauty, rivers, forests, and unique traditions, Assam is one of the most fascinating regions of India.

Bihu – The Vibrant Festival of Assam
Bihu is the most important traditional festival of the Indian state of Assam. It celebrates the changing seasons and the agricultural cycle, especially the cultivation of rice. The festival reflects Assamese culture, joy, music, dance, and community gatherings.

The Three Main Bihu Festivals:

1. Rongali Bihu (Bohag Bihu)
Celebrated in April during the Assamese New Year.
Marks the beginning of the sowing season.
People wear traditional clothes, perform Bihu Dance, sing Bihu songs, and celebrate with great enthusiasm.

2. Kongali Bihu (Kati Bihu)
Celebrated in October.
A quieter festival because crops are still growing and food stores are limited.
People light earthen lamps in fields and near tulsi plants to pray for a good harvest.

3. Bhogali Bihu (Magh Bihu)
Celebrated in January after the harvest.
Known for feasts, bonfires (Meji), and community celebrations.
Families enjoy traditional foods together.
